Our first Race Online 2012 Partner get together

July 21, 2010

Last week saw our first ever partner event where a few of our partners met to explore how they can work together to encourage even more people to get online and benefit from the fantastic opportunities the web has to offer.

Designed to generate ideas which will act as the basis for bringing our new ‘Manifesto for a Networked Nation’ to life, the event was a huge success, sparking lots of ideas about how we can inspire, encourage and support people to get online.

The afternoon started with a brainstorm, where partners were encouraged to explore ways and means in which they can bring promises to life.  One of the highlights was a discussion of how to make events such as Get Online Week and itea and biscuits even bigger.  There was an unbelievable response, with offers of free tickets, free hardware and nationwide training sessions open to all.  This section of the event also featured the debut of our new film, produced by Adjust your set, containing some of the fantastic stories from our People’s Taskforce.

Later, everyone was split into a group to encourage collaborative thinking.  Each group created an idea and these were then fed back to be built upon and ‘owned’ by a particular organisation.  Ideas such as ‘egranny days,’ where kids train their grandparents in schools and ‘Dig IT’, which would use gardening as an interest tool to get people online, were just a couple of the fantastic concepts our partners came up with.

Now, all that’s left is for these promises to come to life.

We are a small team with limited resources, but a big ambition and so really appreciate your help in achieving our goals. Please use the online equivalent of this event via our forum to share your ideas with us and other partners– please also tell us how we can improve the forum and let us have your ideas on how we can help our partners work together effectively. If you haven’t already signed up as a Race Online 2012 partner, join us now and watch out for future events.

A great big thank you to Microsoft who were our generous hosts for the afternoon.

All online by 2012 eh? Yeah right,we are all walking into a nightmare, the new world order means that the American and the British governments now have complete access to all your bank accounts in all the world at the touch of a button, get the whole world on the internet and they control the whole world, first rule of Marxism is “Take control of the Banks” Seemples! if you are self employed look out,you will be inline for an investigation by the HMRC,very soon. I advise all who see this look up http://www.taxhell.co.uk,it might save your life.As with all Stalanist,Marxist,Lennanist governments such as the U.K they need a secret police with ultimate power to patrol it,the Russians had the KGB the Nazis the Gestapo, the East Germans the Stazi we have the HMRC,except they have more power and knowledge than all the others put together, thanks to our own stupidity, dont dream on wipe every thing off your computer, buy Evidence Eliminator before you even type a word, you will be sorry if you dont,a good tool if you dont let it rule you but the information you all now have on line will kill you sure as a bullet. No evidence = No crime. You have been warned.

We would definitely liked to have been involved in this event, but do not recall having, as a partner, received any advance notice of it or how we could participate.
    How was this promoted?
How do we ensure that we are invited to future similar events?

      Hi Kevin,

Thank you for contacting the team at Race Online 2012. Whilst we would have loved to invite each and every one of our partners to this event, in this instance it simply wasn’t possible-capacity being the main factor.

However, we will hopefully hold more events in the future which we would love other partners to be a part of. We’ll let you know when the next opportunity arises. In the meantime, we encourage debate and idea sharing between partners in our forums.

Thanks for your support to date.

      Best Wishes,
      The Race Online 2012 Team.

Seeing mention of Microsoft reminded me of their appearance in Ukraine on the same campus where we’d made the call for a centre for social innovation 4 years ago.

I’d been invited to guest post on a Stanford blog about what we’d been doing there.

Now here in the UK, as a business already investing all in social objectives we don’t have anything left to give, other than the IP which makes the case for social and economic inclusion.

If I were in RaceOnline’s position, in the interests of inclusion, Big Society and all, I’d be inclined to open up the discussion online with all partners such that they might get some exposure and support as well.

      Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your comments. We are extremely keen to create open debate and ideas sharing between our partners. To this end we have created a forum on our website where we are encouraging our partners to go and share their ideas, progress updates and form collaborative relationships.

We would welcome your suggestions on improving this and any other thoughts you may have around creating open discussion. Please feel free to email me directly: jason@raceonline2012.org

      Regards,

      Jason
