Do you know what day it is on Tuesday?

February 4, 2011

It’s Safer Internet Day!

Safer Internet Day, which last year was celebrated in 65 countries, promotes safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, particularly among children and young people.

It’s a great opportunity to recognise the importance of the net in young people’s lives and to ensure that they can get more out of life online safely and responsibly.  This year’s theme, ‘our virtual lives’, focuses on online action having offline consequences, particularly in games and gaming.

Security should enable rather than prohibit the ability to get more out of life online.   There are loads of things you can do too, from raising awareness, to running activities.  Lots of our partners are involved, including TalkTalk, which is running internet safety master classes at its  Customer Experience Centre in London’s Soho, (if you know someone who would love to go along, click here) and Get Safe Online, which is reminding Internet users of the simple steps they should take to protect themselves and their computers from the risk of fraud, identity theft and viruses.  If you know someone  with Internet security fears, show them this handy beginners guide to put their mind at rest.

  • Visit the spanking new Safer Internet Day site for more info and resources.  You can also feature a banner of your site to promote the day and show your support?
